Can it really be the end of November?

I can hardly believe how quickly time flies when you are too busy to think about it. We had a great Thanksgiving- My sister, Siri, and her family were here, along with her in-laws. They all came to our house for dinner. It was a lot of fun- mostly because I got a chance to spend time with a small piece of my family... that doesn't happen very often. Siri and I were the only ones NOT at my parents house this year, so it was great that we could be together. We had way too much food, of course. When you grow up in a family of twelve people, it's really hard to cook for small groups. I actually still have leftovers in my fridge that probably need to see the trash can. We had pie for breakfast- a family tradition that my kids love. When else can you eat chocolate pie with whipped cream in the morning and have it be acceptable? All in all, it was a great holiday. Now, I just have to find the time to get my Christmas decorations up; I've kind of been putting it off, much to my girls' disappointment. Eventually I'll get around to it, when I have some energy....

Daylight Savings

Can I tell you much I despise the whole "falling back" part of daylight savings? It totally messes with my kids heads and ruins their schedules. It has been a week and we are still fighting with keeping our kids awake till a decent hour to put them to bed... and on the flip side they are awake BEFORE the crack of dawn. So, tonight we were watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition (my kids like Ty... go figure), and twenty minutes into the show Callie says, "Is Ty over yet?" Our kids go to bed at 8:00, which is when the show is over, and they know that. So, we told her no and kept watching. She was sitting in a chair by the TV so we couldn't really see her well. A few minutes later Andrew asked her a question, to which she gave no response. And the picture shows what we found. Not even 7:30 and the child can't even keep her eyes open. We keep hoping this time thing will work itself out for our kids..... I hope it doesn't take much longer.

I really thought I had enough this year....

So, we live in a fairly large neighborhood... completely flat streets, houses fairly close together. You know what that means for Halloween, right? Last year I bought six bags of candy, thinking it would be plenty. I ran out faster than I could have imagined and had to turn my lights out so people would stop knocking. This year I totally thought I was prepared: ten bags of candy. It had to be enough, right? I was way off again... where do these kids come from?! I didn't even recognize half the kids that I gave candy to. And, when I was finally out I turned off our porch lights and closed the blinds in the windows by the front door. Did that stop them from ringing and knocking? Nope. I bet I had twenty kids come to the door after all my "I'm out of candy" precautions were taken. Some of them were persistent little buggers. I actually had to open the door to get them to stop knocking. Now, isn't there some kind of unwritten Trick-or-Treating rule that states if the porch light is off, you don't knock? Maybe I just grew up in a different time, different place. So, my resolve for next year is to buy 15 bags of candy... and one really big bag of lollipops- to be on the safe side.
